2.5 months left to pre-order.

My feelings over the last few weeks have alternated between joy, shock, euphoria, panic, excitement, stress, belief, disbelief, hope, despair—okay, I think you get the point :)

I’m having a hard time realizing it’s finally happening.

This baby has been baking for six years and eleven months. It’s almost ready to see the world.

My work schedule over the past month has been as varied as my feelings.

I’m working on finalizing the cover design, the interior design, and the packaging design.

We’re making new debossing tests on the cover, new print tests using various printing techniques, and recently also started the process of test-producing the packaging of the books.

I’m also finalizing the last parts of the manuscript while keeping up with social media, emails, and redesigning our new website.

Then the boring but necessary things that also need to be sorted out before we go live: warehousing, logistics, tax reporting, etc.

As we near the launch, I’ll have more updates than I can reasonably fit into one monthly email, so I’m thinking of sending these emails biweekly from now on.

Let me know if you think that’s a good idea—or if hearing from me once a month is enough, haha.

Live event in August

In early May, I visited Stockholm’s most advanced live event venue. It has a stage, 450 seats, and a curved screen larger than my apartment. They also have an experienced team of professional videographers and sound and lighting designers who specialize in live events.

Me, walking on the stage to elicit the feelings of presenting Table of Gods. It felt great!

After spending seven years working on this project, I want the launch to be something special. I know I could broadcast it from my kitchen, but being on stage feels different. It puts me out there, in a good way.

The event will be broadcast live on YouTube, starting at either 19:00 or 20:00 (Stockholm time) so people in the US have time to wake up. Right now, it looks like it’ll happen on a Saturday—either August 15 or 22.

Limited books before Christmas

One more thing I worked on in May was figuring out if we can deliver the first books to our warehouse in early December—and ship them to you before Christmas!

I think it would be awesome for anyone planning to buy Table of Gods as a Christmas gift.

However, there are many uncertainties, and eight suppliers need to deliver on time before the printing process can even begin. If one fails to deliver, the entire process will be delayed.

That’s the bad news.

The good news is that five suppliers have confirmed they can deliver. I just need confirmation from the other three.

But even if we can deliver the books before Christmas, the number of books will be limited.

Whether you’re gifting the book to yourself or a loved one, Table of Gods will come packaged in a drawstring pouch to make it feel like it was delivered from ancient Mesopotamia. This is just a mockup, we’re still working on the final design.

Producing a Table of Gods book takes much longer than producing a “normal” book. Not only because of the coordination between suppliers of quality materials such as paper, boards, and bags, but also because of the manufacturing process.

Several steps in producing Table of Gods take longer than they do for “normal” books, such as debossing the cover, spraying the edges, packaging the books, and conducting rigorous quality control throughout printing, folding, and binding.

My photographer and I will be at the printing factory once production begins, checking color accuracy throughout the printing process. That too will slow production.

Table of Gods is like a Michelin-star meal. It needs time, attention to detail, and many hands before it’s ready. Trying to produce it like a Big Mac doesn’t work. And even if it did, I’d rather sell fewer books than release something that isn’t Michelin-star quality.

I hope you understand.

Thank you for your support all these years. I’ve had a blast writing these progress emails, and I won’t get sentimental yet because I still have a few left to write.
